Breaking the Relationship Crisis Myth

It’s a myth is that relationship therapy should only be sought in times of crisis: in fact, that’s often when therapy is already well past needed. Couples therapy can be extremely beneficial at any stage of a relationship, whether in crisis or not.

Therapy is perfect for couples as a preventative and stability-building practice.

Couples counseling addresses issues both big and small in a relationship.

Common topics we welcome in therapy:

  • navigating the mental load

  • developing traditions as a couple

  • managing dynamics with in-laws

  • exploring differences in faith or beliefs

  • addressing decreased intimacy

  • working through job loss

  • preparing for engagement

  • welcoming a new baby or family member

  • coping with the loss of a loved one

Couples Counseling Modalities and Methods I Use

I utilize Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and integrate elements of parts work, specifically Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO), to help my clients better understand their emotions, how those emotions show up in their relationships, and how to communicate about them effectively.

Together, we explore the challenges that impact both partners and reflect on past experiences that may influence the current dynamics of the relationship.

Therapy is deeply healing for processing trauma because what is wounded in relationships is healed in relationships.

My relational approach helps clients feel seen, heard, and understood. Healing begins when people access safety and authenticity, qualities that trauma often disrupts.
